Spirit of Mumbai...We all say it all the time for the citizens of Mumbai. Whenever there a bomb blast or the floods or any other natural or man-made disasters in Mumbai.
We all sit in front of the TV watch the city burn. We talk tweet comment about it very very genuinely. We feel bad really really sab. Cuz no matter which part of the state u live in, everyone loves the city.
The very next day of the calamity, the city stands up and gets going. Back to work, with our hearts paining from the previous night, making the city feel alive again.
But what makes the city and the citizens do that they do day after say, even after a disaster?? The spirit of Mumbai...that's what we call it sitting in our safe homes/offices/cars.
Is it really the spirit?
I dont think so. Its the helpless cumpulsion rather "majboori" of the people to get back work, be that the daily wage workers, the dabbawalas, the small traders, or the support staff of ur swanky head office in SOBO, who if do not get the wheel turning and churning the whole system that this city supports would fall apart.
Or not even that...if they do not do the work they do to support their life in this haadso ka sheher, this city has more than enuf competetion as "work force" that is ready to take over. What choice do they have left?? NONE!
It's like a deer that is grazing in the jungle. Drinking water from the only water hole in the wilderness. It is attacked by the tiger and badly injured. It manages to escape from the claws of death and finds a safe dwell to spend the dark night licking its wounds. He's aware if he does not get a back on his feet, his open wounds wud soon attract more hunters. Limping and hurt, he gets back on his feet and gives it everything he's got left to get back to wat it takes to survive in the wild.
I don't wanna compare the citizens to the animals like the celebs that compare it to the dogs who cud have been crushed under a SUV, but it actually is their fight to survive in this city.
Well lets talk abt u sitting in your office in NAGPUR or PUNE. There's a very very high chance that your business/social/financial life is being run from a back office in some part of the great city of Mumbai.
In ur non Mumbai city u wake up and get back to work and expect your Mumbai support team to do what they do everyday to keep the whole system working. This team consists of all those labours, office support staff, and everyone in the hierarchy.
And our work in evey other city of the state is back to normal. And we appreciate the people of Mumbai, and their "spirit"
Its is much greater than just spirit and much darker than the fight to survive.
